La vie en rose!

La Vie En Rose is one of my favorite movies and Marion Cotillard protrail of Edith Piaf was amazing. There are two versions of this movie, my favorite is the 2007 version shown below. The movie is in French but the movie does have English subtitles, I don’t know if there is an English version but i’m sure if you look around you can find one!

Summary: This film/biography is about the amazing life of Edith Piaf from the age of 19 until her death at 47. The film is a portrait of a remarkable artist born into poverty who survived using the only gift she had, her voice. Piaf’s tragic life was a constant battle to sing and survive, to live and love with no regrets.

Hope that you enjoy this film as much as I do!!!

Chickpea and Parsley salad

I find this salad to be so delicious and very satisfying. The garbanzo beans make the salad very filling, and the feta cheese coats everything to make a delicious dressing that combines everything together to make this Greek salad a perfect healthy treat!

Chickpea, Feta and Parsley Salad

Serves about 4-5 as a side dish

  • 1 medium onion, diced
  • 3 cloves garlic
  • 1 1/2 tbs olive oil
  • a spoonful of red chili flakes
  • 1 (14oz) of garbanzo beans
  • 2 scallions, chopped
  • 1/2 cup chopped parsley
  • Juice of one lemon
  • 2oz (about a handful) of feta cheese
  • Salt and pepper

Heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil and cook the red onion till lightly golden. Add garlic and chili and cook till the garlic is fragrant, I like my food a little spicier so I added a little more. Set aside to cool so it doesn’t melt the feta when you mix it in.
Drain the chickpeas, rinse and place in the salad bowl. Add crumbled feta, spring onion, parsley and lemon juice, season with salt and pepper. Add the cooled onion and garlic mixture and remaining oil and mix well.
Store in the fridge for a few hours before serving to let the salad marinate.

I hope that you find this version of a Greek salad as delicous as I do!!!

Books and wine

Sometimes you need to unwind after a long day. I find that the best way is to curl up on the couch with an nice glass of wine or tea, and a good book.
I just started Game of Thrones, there is a HBO series based off the book. I have never watched the show but from what I have heard it’s good.
This is book one of the A Song of Ice and Fire series by George R.R. Martin

Book Review: I haven’t finished the book yet, but what I’ve read so far is brilliant. It’s complex, multi-layered characters and never-dull plot make this book a hard read to put down!!!
I will give another review when I have finished the book!!

Back of Book Summary: Long ago, in a time forgotten, a preternatural event threw the seasons out of balance. In a land where summers can last decades and winters a lifetime, trouble is brewing. The cold is returning, and in the frozen wastes to the north of Winterfell, sinister and supernatural forces are massing beyond the kingdom’s protective Wall. At the center of the conflict lie the Starks of Winterfell, a family as harsh and unyielding as the land they were born to. Sweeping from a land of brutal cold to a distant summertime kingdom of epicurean plenty, here is a tale of lords and ladies, soldiers and sorcerers, assassins and bastards, who come together in a time of grim omens.
Here an enigmatic band of warriors bear swords of no human metal; a tribe of fierce wildlings carry men off into madness; a cruel young dragon prince barters his sister to win back his throne; and a determined woman undertakes the most treacherous of journeys. Amid plots and counterplots, tragedy and betrayal, victory and terror, the fate of the Starks, their allies, and their enemies hangs perilously in the balance, as each endeavors to win that deadliest of conflicts: the game of thrones.
